Can usability testing be automated?
« on: January 03, 2013, 07:34:43 AM »
I was asked the other if usability testing could be automated?

I immediately said no. But, would appreciate others thoughts on this.

Generally not.  However, suppose you have a product with a known level of usability and changes have been made to it.  During an automated regression test, it might be possible to have some of the original usability testcases automated and including in the regression test.

Since 'usability' is somewhat subjective, such testcases would  have to have really good success evaluation technology.

That's a big No!

You cannot beat a real person for usability testing. It's all about the look and feel of the software.
