Compatibility testing is done to ensure that an application looks and behaves as expected on a range of devices and/or browsers. The expected compatibility of the software is typically defined in the requirements. If this information is not known, then our QA Team can suggest and perform compatibility testing across a selection of the most commonly supported devices/browsers based on those used on similar projects. Our QA Team performs compatibility testing on real devices and not simulators. The use of real devices ensures we test against the exact same environment as the end-user will. We have a wide range of real devices including PCs, Macs, Android tablets, iPads, Android Phones and iPhones to choose from.
Typically, compatibility testing is carried out after the functional testing has been completed, and most critical/major defects have been fixed. Testing for compatibility any earlier on in the development process can quickly invalidate any testing, as there will undoubtedly still be changes to the code going on. Once the application is stable and only a minor amount of changes are expected, then this is a great time to do some compatibility testing.
